The Role of Active Regions in the Generation of Torsional Oscillations
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a model for torsional oscillations where the inhibiting effect of active region magnetic fields on turbulence locally reduces turbulent viscous torques, leading to a cycleand latitude-dependent modulation of the differential rotation. The observed depth dependence of torsional oscillations as well as their phase relationship with the sunspot butterfly diagram are reproduced quite naturally in this model. The resulting oscillation amplitudes are significantly smaller than observed, though they depend rather sensitively on model details. Meridional circulation is found to have only a weak effect on the oscillation pattern.

A coronal loop can be oscillated in various directions. A basic type of coronal loop oscillation is called transverse oscillation that can be caused by different factors, such as nearby active regions and flares. The damping of transverse oscillation may be produced by the dissipation mechanism or the wake of the traveling disturbance. The aim of this paper is to estimate the damping time of tr...
متن کاملNonlinear Analysis of Interaction with SVC in Stressed Power Systems: Effect of SVC Controller Parameters
In this paper, the effect of Static VAr Compensator (SVC) parameters on the nonlinear interaction of steam power plant turbine-generator set is studied using the Modal Series (MS) method. A second order representation of a power system equipped with SVC is developed and then by MS method the nonlinear interaction of torsional modes is assessed under various conditions and the most influencing f...

An experiment to search for short-period intensity oscillations in the solar corona was conducted during the total solar eclipse of August 11, 1999 in Esfahan, Iran. The intensity in the continuum, centered about 4700 Å and with a passband having a half-width of 190 Å, was recorded at a counting rate of 5 Hz using six low-noise Hamamatsu R647 photomultiplier tubes. We recorded intensity value...
متن کاملJet confinement by magneto-torsional oscillations
Many quasars and active galactic nuclei (AGN) appear in radio, optical, and X-ray maps, as a bright nuclear sources from which emerge single or double long, thin jets. When observed with high angular resolution these jets show structure with bright knots separated by relatively dark regions. Nonthermal nature of a jet radiation is well explained as the synchrotron radiation of the relativistic ...
